The New York Times Lens blog wrote about our global project that involved 32 schools in 14 countries, several Newhouse professors, MPD students, students from several other Newhouse departments and a master’s project for Andrea Wise.

A big congratulations to Andrea and Mike Davis, the Alexia Chair in Documentary Photography at Newhouse, for spearheading the project, and Art Director Abby Legge, web developer Jeff Passetti, Ambra Tieszen, Jane Depgen and about 30 other MPD design majors. Advisors Ken Harper and Renée Stevens and all the professional designers who coached during Pixels vs Print, including Mike Schmidt, Maxx Berkowitz, Tyler Finck.. A true team effort!

FAMILY. LIFE. IS A GLOBAL COLLABORATIVE STUDENT PROJECT THAT TOUCHES A SIGNIFICANT ASPECT OF LIFE ON THE PLANET: FAMILY.

Some families close the gaps of geographic distance, transcend blood lines, and provide support and comfort. Others represent struggle, difficulty, and challenge. Some individuals believe they are born into a family; others feel they are constantly searching for one. This is the family dynamic, at once unifying and distinguishing each of us.

With 34 participating programs around the world, and employing disciplines including fine art, photojournalism, documentary film, and animation, Family. Life. explores the feelings, relationships, obstacles, and identities of families across the globe.

Family. Life. is sponsored by Photoshelter, PDN, and ASMP. The Alexia Foundation and Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications are initiating the project.
